Biography
With no previous martial arts experience, Michael took his first jiu-jitsu class at the age of 52 and was instantly hooked. His coach’s mantra of “one more action” resonated so much that it trickled into his personal life, inspiring and enabling him to progress through the unfamiliar and intimidating journey of founding RANDORI and building a team to grow it. He knows from experience that the jiu-jitsu process will have a positive impact on anyone’s perseverance and resilience, among other invaluable life skills. Michael is a marketing creative director with 30 years experience, a songwriter, cyclist, and vinyl enthusiast.

NEW DATE: Silver Spring Volunteering: Gardens for Social Enterprise
May 09, 2026 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Hello Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

We’re inviting you to join us for a hands-on morning of service!

  • Saturday, May 9th
  • 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • 1705 Robertson Road, OCAPDD.

We’ll be rolling up our sleeves to help with whatever is needed most that day: preparing garden beds for vegetable planting, clearing weeds and brush, and getting the space ready for a new accessible pathway that will allow individuals using wheelchairs to pick their own produce from the garden.

This is a meaningful opportunity to support a local organization doing incredible work. OCAPDD runs a social enterprise garden that produces fresh food, supports programming, and donates excess produce to the local food bank. It’s a powerful example of community, inclusion, and sustainability in action.

Friends and family are absolutely welcome. I’ll be bringing my kids - and the TimBits!

Sign up here: Gardening and Lunch RSVP

If there’s enough interest, we can head out for lunch together afterwards as well.

A few quick notes:

  • Please dress for outdoor work (and a bit of mud)
  • We’ll go ahead rain or shine, with adjustments as needed
  • More details will be shared closer to the date

We’d love to see a great group out for this. It’s a simple way to make a real impact together.

For additional information, please feel free to contact us via our Facebook
